Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.
The Bible is filled with many miracles and wonders performed by God on behalf of His people. Chapter 10 of the book of Joshua records one of those. God made the sun and moon stand still in order to provide time for Joshua and his army to complete their battle against the 5 Amorite Kings who were launching attacks on the great city of Gibeon (Joshua 10:1-15). Several things are worth noting in this story.
1. God told Joshua not to fear and promised victory before the battle ever began. (V. 8)
2. God Himself fought for Joshua and his army. More died from hailstones than Israel killed with their swords. (VV. 10-11)
3. God made the sun and moon stand still in response to Joshua’s prayer request. (VV. 12-14)
There are several lessons to be learned from the story.
1. We have nothing to fear when we place our faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Christ has already won the victory over sin for us as He died on the cross, was buried and rose again on the third day.
2. Though our battles come frequently and furiously at times, often our best plan of attack is to do nothing more than trust God to engage the enemy on our behalf.
3. Prayer offers tremendous power for believers as we lift our burdens up to God in faith. God hears the prayers of His people.
4. When we allow God to win the victory for us, our testimony of faith and salvation is its strongest to the world around us. God receives the glory, not us.
Joshua 10:14 (NKJV)
14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel. 04-13-04
