Cartoonology Devotional 05-20-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. What does it mean to have freedom in Christ? Some like to think it means do anything you want and still be saved and go to heaven. Wrong. Freedom in Christ means that you now have the liberty to be what God wants you to be. It is a good thing the Lord doesn’t sanction freedom to do what we want, because most of the time it would be dangerous, crippling or fatal. Dr. James Dobson tells how he stood and watched his bird flutter around in her cage and his cat on the floor eyeing her. Dr. Dobson realized that only he could see what would happen if the bird could escape, and that the same is true in our relationship with God. Only He knows what is best for us, although we might impatiently want Him to change our circumstances. We forget that the one true, omniscient God has the perfect vantage point from which to judge our situation. The freedom Christ gives is possible, because He also gives us freedom from the bondage of sin. Through Christ, we can rise above sin and live victoriously free from its grip. Galatians 5:1 (NKJV) 1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. 05-20-09 edrynn@verizon.net
