Cartoonology Devotional 06-30-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. I learned to drive at an early age in my father’s 1950 Chevrolet pickup. I drove down our country lane to the sawmill where he worked and around its huge lumber yard. He showed me how to shift from one gear to the other. However, I was afraid to try it and drove in first gear only. Later he drew a diagram and explained how it worked, but I still continued in first gear. Finally, I got up enough nerve and shifted to second gear. I remember the good feeling I had over my accomplishment. Shifting gears in our spiritual life can be somewhat like this. We might attend Sunday School, worship services, discipleship classes and seminars but still have difficulty making practical application of all the things we learned. We can have certificates hanging all over our walls, but they do not mean much if the learning we received does not change our lives. Somewhere along the way, we must “shift gears” to experience that change. We cannot stay in first gear, and we must be extra careful not to get stuck in reverse. Hebrews 6:1 (NLT) 1 So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. 06-30-09 Click on the link here to see all previous Cartoonology Devotionals.
