Cartoonology Devotional 09-11-09
Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.
My first computer was a Commodore with 64K of memory. We bought it for my son to play games on, but it eventually got pushed back into a closet. I dragged it out one day after purchasing a book titled "How To Use Computers In Ministry". That was the beginning of my fascination with computers.
Comparing the Commodore 64 with today's computers is like comparing a bicycle with a jet airplane. You could turn it on, insert a program disk in the external drive and go wash the car before it booted up. You had to start up all the peripherals, such as the printer and external drive, in a certain order. However, I used that old computer throughout college and composed a quite a few term papers on it. I sold it with some reservation and sadness at a yard sale in 1996.
Nothing has changed more or faster than the world of computers, and it is still changing at hyper speed. It amazes me that my little jump drive has many times more storage capability than that old Commodore.
We could debate the vices or virtues of change, but change is inevitable. I don't mind change when it is for the better. I like change when it is healthy.
God must like change, too. The word "new" is used over 70 times in the King James Version of the Bible, and most of the time it is used in a positive sense. God is in the business of change.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 09-11-09
