Cartoonology Devotional 09-08-09
I have been a witness in court only once in my life. It was after someone ran the red lights on the school bus I was driving. I was only 17 and a little scared about having to do it. A police office came and questioned me afterward, and soon I got a summons. I was glad to find out that the parent also witnessed the incident, and that I would not have to testify alone. The driver denied it at first, but the judge reminded him there were two witnesses. Then, the driver began to make excuses for running the light. He was found guilty and fined.
We often talk about being a witness to the world of our Christian faith. Usually, in church speak, this means telling others about our faith and making an effort to lead them to Christ. Actually, a witness is only someone who has seen something or experienced something. Every genuine, born again Christian is a witness. The only distinction is whether or not he or she is closed-mouthed about it or is actively and openly telling others.
That can be scary, too, although it should be a natural outflow of a relationship with Christ. But there is no need to be scared, because there are other witnesses who are giving their testimony, too. Plus, Jesus not only summons us, he also empowers us to be effective witnesses of our faith.
Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." 09-08-09
