Cartoonology Devotional 06-17-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. What we call the Lord’s Prayer is often recited in many churches every Sunday morning. This is fine, but it is not what the Lord intended when He gave this prayer to His early disciples. Jesus meant this prayer as a model after which we can pattern our own prayers. It is beautiful and contains some very important elements for us to incorporate. Below is a list of them. 1. Give proper recognition to God first. He is holy. He is our Father and worthy of praise. 2. Seek God’s will and way first. Our lives should serve to further His heavenly and earthly kingdom causes. 3. After this you are prepared to make requests. Daily bread indicates asking for needs and not wants. 4. Ask forgiveness of sin. Notice that you are asking forgiveness on the basis of how you forgive others. Be careful! 5. Ask for protection from temptation. All are tempted. Temptation is not sin but to succumb to it is. 6. Ask for deliverance from sin. Sin is our primary problem. We need to be saved from it. 7. End the prayer where you started by recognizing to whom you are praying and giving Him rightful place and recognition. The Lord’s Prayer is not an exhaustive prayer. It is only a guideline. Reciting it is not nearly as important as genuineness and purity of heart and mind. Matthew 6:9 (NKJV) 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 06-17-09 Click on the link here to see all previous Cartoonology Devotionals.
