Cartoonology Devotional 07-04-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. Have you ever been weary? After Hurricane Andrew, Janet and I went with a disaster relief team to Florida. We spent a week giving out food, repairing roofs etc. On our return trip I decided to drive straight through stopping only to refuel the car and eat, and I thought I was doing pretty well until we got home. It was the closest I ever came to a physical breakdown. One can become weary in more ways than just physical. Weariness can also affect us emotionally and mentally. Weariness can come from many sources other than physical fatigue such as stress, illness, death in the family, loss of a job, loss of friendship, conflict, etc. Life seems to be drained from you, and you cannot think clearly. You can feel like a ton of brick are on your shoulders, and sometimes you will feel like you cannot breathe. Depression can set in. The Word of God offers us encouragement. Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. The word wait is translated “trust” in the New Living Translation of the Bible. The word hope could also be inserted. I always thought it interesting that the Portuguese phrase, “Eu espero” can translate “I wait” or “I hope” depending on the context. How appropriate. As believers in Christ, we wait because of hope in the one true living God, and in the process God renews our strength. 07-04-09 Click on the link here to see all previous Cartoonology Devotionals.
