Cartoonology Devotional 06-04-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. Are all people children of God? We hear people say things that indicate they are, but is that true? It is true that all people are God’s creation, and that all people are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). Being created in the image of God could mean several things. One is that man has a spirit. God is spirit. Man has creative ability, intellect, emotions, will, a moral nature, a trichotomy (body, soul and spirit): all of which pertain to God. However, these alone do not make one a child of God. Becoming a child of God involves faith, and in particular, faith in Jesus Christ. John 1:12 (NKJV) 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: You might ask the question, “What about all those who lived before Christ came”? Well, they received the promise of Christ (Messiah) by faith and thus are children of God. This was true of Abraham. Genesis 15:6 (NKJV) 6 And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. Read the Hall of Faith in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews to see a list of other Old Testament people who also believed God’s promise. Are you a child of God by this definition? What glorious privilege and blessing to be called thus. 06-04-09 To receive this daily devotional by e-mail, send a message to edrynn@verizon.net and ask for it.
