Cartoonology Devotional 07-25-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. My 9-year-old grandson was recently visiting some caverns with his family. He was given a quarter to toss into the wishing well. When asked what he wished for he responded, “World peace”. I am not superstitious, but I was proud of his answer. I probably would have wished for a pony or bicycle at that age. I am reminded of the story in John chapter 5, where Jesus encountered a man with an infirmity lying beside the pool by the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem. He was waiting for the water to stir so that he could be healed. The notion of the day was that the first person to get in would get his wish. Folks believed an angel of God stirred the water, but most likely, it was a natural force that caused the phenomenon. At any rate, it was all based on chance or luck. Jesus asked him if he wanted to be well. The man answered that there was no one to help him into the pool. Then, Jesus healed the man and told him to get up, take his bed and walk. And, so he did! Getting what we want or need is not based on wishing, chance or luck. It is based on asking God in faith according to His will, and prayer is never wasted. 1 John 5:14 (NKJV) 14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 07-25-09 Click on the link here to see all previous Cartoonology Devotionals.
