Cartoonology Devotional 05-04-09
E. Larry Ross
Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.
My maternal grandfather would often say, “I’d could stretch a mile if I didn’t have to walk back.” Have you ever wondered why we stretch and yawn? No one seems to know for certain, but most agree that they are instinctive reactions. Yawning is a type of stretching. At any rate, it seems to be an exercise essential to health. One thing for certain, it feels good!
There are many ways to stretch. You can stretch to warm up and cool down when exercising. You can “stretch” your dollar and you can “stretch” your mind. You can stretch out your hand to help someone. Spiritual stretching is essential, as well.
1 Timothy 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 But reject profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
Physical stretching is infectious to others around us. Spiritual stretching must be, too. Everywhere we go, it is good for us to do some spiritual stretching so as to point others to Christ and influence our brothers and sisters in Him to do some spiritual stretching of their own. It feels good, too. 05-04-09
