Cartoonology Devotional 09-14-09
Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.
Do you remember the 1950's/60's radio show and later TV show "Father Knows Best". We have come a long way from that era. Nowadays fathers and husbands are portrayed as stupid oafs who are completely out of touch with reality. Children are much smarter and they know best.
Although "Father Knows Best" was idealistic, it did contain portrayals of family as it should be. Of course, there are no perfect families, but the ideal is always worth pursuing.
A son came home from college and remarked, "It is amazing how much my parents learned while I was away studying". Often our children do not get it until they are older, but they may not get it at all unless we provide the instruction and direction they need when they are young.
I often discovered my parents were a lot wiser than I thought. I remember them telling me that I would quickly gain some new friends after purchasing my first car at age 15. I blew it off, but realty soon set in. That did happen. Of course, it would have been more likely if I had owned a 2-door 1957 Chevy instead of a 4-door 1957 Plymouth. I was hoping for some financial help with that car. That didn't happen!
Often times it takes drastic measures by parents to teach children the lessons they will need for life, but to balk because of that would be a mistake.
Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
