I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology

Luann

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons.

How do you define love? Can’t find the words? The Apostle Paul helps us with his description in 1 Corinthians.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 &13 (HCSB)
4 Love is patient; love is kind. Love does not envy; is not boastful; is not conceited;
5 does not act improperly; is not selfish; is not provoked; does not keep a record of wrongs;
6 finds no joy in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth;
7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for languages, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.
13 Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.

That is a pretty good list, but even Paul had to use both positive and negative descriptions. Have you ever wondered why he described love as the greatest over faith and hope? Of course, he tells us that love never ends, and that is part of the reason. To get the whole picture, we have to look at some more scripture.

1 John 4:8 (HCSB)
8 The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

There it is. Love never ends because God is love and God is eternal. God doesn’t just love; He is Love. You say, “Well it is easy for Him, then.” What about us? Why is it we have so much trouble enduring in love? What can we do to love like God? Again, we have to look at some more scripture.

1 John 4:16 (HCSB)
16 And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.

In other words, the depth of our love relationship with God will determine the depth of our love relationship with people. Do you love Him? 02-11-09
