I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 05-15-09

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Janet and I sing the song “Lonely Voices”. It includes lyrics talking about lonely voices crying in the city coming from busy people too busy and too disturbed to stop for even a little while. It is a strange thing that even the largest of cities are filled with lonely people. Neighbors do not know each other or care to. Everyone lives in suspicion of others and sometimes with good reason.

If you don’t have friends, maybe you need to start making friends. Don’t allow selfishness to get in the way. Don’t confuse being friendly with being a friend. Always be friendly, but choose your friends carefully.

“Fair weather” friends are everywhere, but true friends will stay true through the storms. True friends can always be honest with each other without fear of repercussion, and sometimes there will be wounds even in the best of friendships.

Proverbs 27:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Open rebuke is better Than love carefully concealed. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Remember, too, that there is a Friend who will never fail you. Jesus said, “. . . I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5) 05-15-09
