I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Human heart cells have a pulse, and this is what helps make the heart beat.  A biology teacher once told me that If you take cells from several hearts beating at different rates and place them together in a culture, they will synchronize (http://www.cellsalive.com/myocyte.htm) .  If you went to the web site, you noticed the article says that as long as the cells don’t touch each other, they beat independently.  Wow!  This is an amazing illustration of what God can do with people of all kinds of ethnicity, backgrounds and personalities.  He can place them in His church and make their hearts beat as one.  It is a beautiful sight when it happens.

John talks about Christian fellowship in the first chapter of his first epistle. (1 John 1:1-4)  The word fellowship comes from the Greek word koinonia, which also means partnership.   Great fellowship happens when God’s people join their hearts together in a partnership with God.  (1 Corinthians 3:9)

Colossians 2:1-2 (NKJV)
1 For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,
2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
1 Samuel 18:1 (NKJV)
1 Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
How does this happen?  The principle is quite simple, but the practice of it is where we fail.  When every member of a fellowship has his or her heart in sync with the heart of God, sweet fellowship takes place.  So, it is imperative that I get my heart to synchronize with God’s heart, and if every one of us will do that, true Christian fellowship will take place.

Henry Blackaby says, (my paraphrase) “God does not speak different things to different members of a fellowship, but He speaks the same to all members.”   Someone is often not listening to God.  I know.  It is not you or I!  Is it?  You might ask the question, “How can I know?”  I say, ask some more questions, Does what I am thinking and doing square with scripture?  Does it glorify God?  Does it build up the body of Christ?  Am I being self-centered?  Dial in to God and find out His heart. (1 Corinthians 2:16)   What is your heart in sync with??  02-05-09
