I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 11-25-09

Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Has someone ever tried to deceive you?  I recently got some spam e-mail in which a reputable, trustworthy company was misrepresented.  The sender asked me to go to a web page toverify my account information.  Supposedly, someone had been attempting to use it to make a purchase.  Fortunately, my computer was able to identify it as spam, and I averted what could have been very damaging to my personal identity and finances.

These scenarios happen continuously every day, and as bad as they are, there are more serious consequences from being a victim of spiritual deception.  Counterfeit Christianity abounds in our culture.  Without good spiritual discernment, people can, and are, being easily deceived every day into following a false doctrine that leads, not to eternal life, but to eternal damnation.

Satan is a master of deception.  He demonstrated that early on in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve.  He continues to do it today.  The Bible warns and admonishes us to be alert.  It tells us that many will even claim to be the Promised Messiah, himself.

Much of the deceptive theology we see centers around the person of Jesus.  What can we do?  Always check to see of their version of Jesus squares with the biblical Jesus.  If necessary, ask a trustworthy Christian to help you.  But, let the Bible be your primary guide, and spend a lot of time in Bible study and prayer.  You cannot go wrong.  Remember, too, a change in only one letter in a sentence can change its entire meaning.  Your very soul may be at stake.

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV)
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.  11-25-09
