I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 05-27-09

E. Larry Ross

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

According to a 2009 George Barna Survey, 40% of American Christians do not believe Satan is a real being, but that he only symbolizes evil. Nearly the same number (38%) said they do not believe the Holy Spirit is living person either. This is astonishing and dismaying.

The Bible clearly teaches that Satan is a real being. He appears in the Bible from beginning to end. He is a spiritual being described as the temporary ruler of this world (Ephesians 6:12, John 12:31). He is also described as the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4) and many other names.

Almost everything has its polar opposite. For example, there is good and evil, light and dark, cold and hot, heaven and hell and God and Satan. If you believe there is the one, you must believe the other also exists. Although Satan is real, he is a defeated foe. His supernatural powers pale to those of God. His days are numbered along with all his demons.

Revelation 20:10 (NKJV)
10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 05-27-09
