I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 08-07-09

Cartoonology Devotional 08-07-09
Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.
I love my GPS system, but I have learned the hard way not to totally depend on it.  After trying to take a few shortcuts with it, I have ended up going "around the tree" to my destination.  It turns out that a good old-fashioned map is not completely outdated.
Knowing where you are going and how to get there is of the utmost importance, and this is especially true when it comes to one's eternal destiny.  The Bible tells us how to get to heaven.  It gives us a clear roadmap we can follow.  However, as is the case with roadmaps, you must be careful to study it and follow it closely.
I recall my sister getting off course on a return trip from the beach.  Her husband decided to take a nap while she drove.  I was just a young boy sitting in the back seat.  When he awoke, she had switched routes.  The difference in the route numbers was only one digit, but it made all the difference in the world.  As it turned out, the two routes intersected at one point.
God has given us clear markers on the road to heaven.  They point us to confession of sin, repentance, faith and surrender to Christ as Lord of our lives.  In one word, Jesus is the way.  Alternate routes won't get you there; much less make you late.
1 John 5:13 (NKJV)
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.  08-07-09
