I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 09-29-09

Cartoonology Devotional 09-29-09

Our perspective on life can become very twisted rather easily. How often do we not see the predicament some people are in simply because we are wrapped up in our own little world of concerns? Often our personal concerns are petty and selfish compared to the overlooked concerns of others.

How can we avoid this? There is an acronym that has been around for ages. It is JOY which stands for Jesus first, Others second and Yourself last. It might sound clichéd to many these days, but it bears out the truth of Jesus' teachings. Do you remember the Golden Rule (Luke 6:31)?

Warren W. Wiersbe tells this story. Years ago, the Salvation Army was holding an international convention and their founder, Gen. William Booth, could not attend because of physical weakness. He cabled his convention message to them. It was one word: "OTHERS." The Salvation Army, which began in London in 1865 has spread to 118 countries. It is one of the world's largest providers of social aid, with expenditures including operating costs of $2.6 billion in 2004, helping more than 32 million people in the US alone.

One might not agree with everything about the Salvation Army, but one thing we would have to agree on is that they have put feet to the Gospel by serving others.

Philippians 2:4 (NKJV)
4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others
