I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 06-27-09

E. Larry Ross

Cartoonology Devotional. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Procrastination, according to one study, costs Americans an estimated $400 million every year due to putting off paying income taxes. That makes you wonder what procrastination costs are for businesses, government and other institutions.

My wife and I have a plan. She makes to-do-lists for her self. As for me, she makes to-do-lists. Not only that, she dates mine – by the year. I have often said she is so good at making to-do-lists that she has to make a list of her lists. As I type this, I am looking at one of her to-do-lists stuck to my monitor. I just noticed that we completed one item yesterday, and I haven’t scratched it out yet. I’d better not procrastinate doing that! Got it!

Making a list of things to do is a good idea. You can see just exactly how much you have procrastinated. Just kidding. Lists do help. One thing that is good to do is to prioritize your to-do-list. When possible, place at the top of the list the things you least like to do or that are the hardest to do and do them first. That way the day or week gets more pleasurable as time passes. You do not have to dread those things every time you look at your list.

One area in which we should not procrastinate is obedience to the Lord especially when it comes to our eternal destiny. Putting off accepting Christ as Lord and Savior is hazardous. The Bible tells us that, “now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). That’s because tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Psalm 119:60 (NKJV)
60 I made haste, and did not delay To keep Your commandments. 06-27-09
