I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 09-09-09

Cartoonology Devotional 09-09-09
Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

I have often told couples, when counseling them, that they should consider spending less on the wedding and more on the marriage.  They usually do not take the advice, but it makes me feel better having said it.

When my wife and I got married, we didn't spend much money on our wedding.  She wore a plain white dress (I can't believe how short it was, though), and we had no reception.  We said our "I do's" and left for our honeymoon at the beach.  On our return, we had to stop and sell soft drink bottles to get enough gasoline.  I know the younger set won't know what I am talking about, but that is what we did.  They sold for .02 cents each.  Gas was about .35 cents per gallon.

The Bridal Association of America reports that the typical wedding in America will cost $30,680.00 this year.  The wedding dress in 2006 was $1,505.00.  The reception was $14,179.00.  Quite frankly, that blows my mind.  People in the bridal business must be raking it in and believe me, it is not the preacher.  Most people actually start their marriage off in debt, so the banks aren't doing too bad either.

I think it ought to be mandatory that a certain amount of money be spent on marriage counseling, and that it should be part of the honeymoon.  Now that I have said it, I know that idea is going to take off real soon!

Malachi 2:16 (NLT)
16 "For I hate divorce!" says the Lord, the God of Israel. "To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty," says the Lord of Heaven's Armies. "So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife."   09-09-09\
