I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 09-16-09

The Born Loser
Cartoonology Devotional 09-16-09
Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

These days it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between artificial and real. I have been watering my wife's outside flower garden and flowerpots for a couple of days, because she is not feeling well. I discovered today that I have been watering a pot of artificial flowers.

That's nothing. My family visited the wax museum at Natural Bridge when the kids were small. I was standing in line waiting to purchase tickets, when my wife pointed out that the person in front of me was not moving. It was a wax figure. I was the only dummy in the room. I know they put that figure there on purpose just for folks like me.

Distinguishing between the real and the fake is important in many ways, but none so important than when it comes to spiritual matters. The world has been full of fakes for a long time, but the closer we come to the second coming of Christ, the more they will appear. This is in keeping with biblical prophecy concerning the end times.

I have heard it said that people who train to detect counterfeit money do not study the counterfeits. Rather, they study the real thing meticulously so that they can recognize any counterfeit no matter what it looks like or where it comes from. As Christians, we must do the same. Stick to the Bible. There is no new revelation from God. We have it all in the scripture and any other book needs to be checked against that and that alone.

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV)
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 09-16-09
