I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 08-05-09

Cartoonology Devotional 08-05-09
Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.
My wife and I like to watch the TV shows American Idol and America's Got Talent.  I'm not sure, however, which is more entertaining the performer's presentations or their reactions when they are booted off.  You see them sobbing with their faces in their hands and saying things like, "This is devastating", "This meant everything to me", "This is my whole life".  Some get angry and curse at the judges, and others collapse.
Based on the track records of most people who become rich and famous in the entertainment world, these so-called losers are probably the biggest winners.  The entertainment world with its fame and fortune usually brings ruin to those who succeed in it.  Does anyone remember the young and innocent Brittany Spears?  Take a look back to Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and the more recent saga of Michael Jackson.  Who needs all that?
Most of us will never need to worry about fame and fortune, but we can know a different kind of wealth and prosperity.    This is the wealth the Lord gives us in Christ.  The scriptures tell us that being rich in faith toward God is all-sufficient and to boot, we never need to put on any act or gain any one else's approval to obtain it.
James 2:5 (NKJV)
5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?   08-05-09
