I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 08-17-09

Cartoonology Devotional 08-17-09
Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Having grown up in a fairly large family, I know about sharing beds.   I recall, at one point, three of my sisters sleeping in one bed and Grandpa sleeping with me in another, all in the same bedroom.  There was barely enough space to pass between the two beds.  On top of that, the house had no closets, only a wardrobe or two.  Sharing beds wasn't a matter of choice; it was a matter of necessity.  I also recall my mom and dad putting their bed in the dining room until they could get the back porch converted to a bedroom.  We didn't mind, because we didn't know any better.

I am glad that these kinds of conditions are not necessary for most folks today, but I am equally sad that so many of us have become spoiled.  We now call luxuries necessities.  I heard a story about a man caught driving his car while simultaneously texting on two different cell phones.  The story itself is ludicrous, but two cell phones?

Hard times have hit many people these days due to our national economic woes, but there is evidence that people are learning to be more sensible with their lifestyles.  People are budgeting more and saving more according to recent news stories.  I would also like to think that people are also learning to share more.

Hebrews 13:16 (NKJV)
16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.  08-17-09
