I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 08-04-09
Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Why is it that what we call news is mostly bad news?  Bad news sells.  That's why.  The recent death of CBS legend and TV pioneer, Walter Cronkite, reminded us that it is possible to have news journalism without sensationalism.  In fact many quotes about Cronkite centered on his ability to give the news without it, and the fact that he decried the modern-day sensationalism of the news.  News nowadays is more like soap operas full of gossip, liberal bias and speculation rather than truth.  You do not know what to believe anymore.  Most of the time you can't believe what you hear, especially in the realm of politics.  It is refreshing to hear occasional good news headlines, though.

The word gospel means good news.  It is derived from a combination of the old English words God and spell.  The Greek word for good news is "evangelion" which is also translated evangelist.  The first four books of the New Testament are referred to as Gospels.  Therefore, the good news of the New Testament centers on preaching/teaching about Jesus.
When Jesus was born the angels announced the good news of his arrival as the promised Messiah who would save the world from sin.  Looking for some good news?  Read the gospels again.
Luke 2:10-11 (HCSB)

10 But the angel said to them, "Don't be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people:
11 today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.  08-04-09
