I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 06-05-09

E. Larry Ross

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Abortion continues to be a hot button topic and most likely will for time to come. Our new president seems determined to open wide the doors for increased abortions even though he says he wants to see them decrease.

My wife and I were recently watching a TV talk show in which scientists were “oohing” and “ahhing” about live pictures of wild animal fetuses. We were struck by how they referred to each fetus by the name of its species. For example, the fetus of an ape was called an ape. The fetus of a giraffe was referred to as a giraffe. The interesting thing is that these same people would most likely refer to the fetus of a human as a “blob” subject to convenience killing by its mother! And how dare anyone even suggest endangering one of these animal fetuses!

Have you noticed how we often treat animals like people and people like animals? And that is just one byproduct of the atheistic evolution movement. Somehow, we must get back to seeing life in the womb as God sees it and be just as determined to preserve it.

Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV)
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations."

The number of abortions in America dropped 8% in 2005, but the figure still stood at 1.2 million. What a tragedy for innocent humans whose lives were snuffed out before ever seeing the light of day. Like other ills of our society, abortion has become big, moneymaking business not so easily stopped. Those of us who value life as God does must not give up, however. 06-05-09
