I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 05-14-09

E. Larry Ross

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Too many think keeping Junior happy is good parenting, and they wear themselves out trying. It isn’t. Keeping Junior happy is a train wreck for him and his parents. A man left his wife. The reason he gave was, “I’m not happy anymore”. He was probably reared like Junior. That is exactly what often happens with people who are pampered and spoiled. When they do get married, they expect their mate to treat them the same, and when you have two mates who have that expectation, it is a disaster.

How do you handle children who repeatedly misbehave? For example when you give Johnny his lunch, and he usually throws it on the floor several times before you can get him to eat. There are many ways. Here is a simple one. When Johnny throws his food on the floor the first time, he goes to bed hungry. Psychologists call this natural consequences. As a natural consequence, Johnny now has no food to eat. Don’t worry. Johnny won’t starve. He’ll shape up pretty quick if he really likes the food, and you are no longer his circus monkey. You can apply this principle many ways.

Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. 05-14-09
