I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 11-30-09
Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.
Christmas is a wonderful time of the year.  I love Christmas-time.    Celebrating it in a genuine way continues to be a challenge, however.  Did you notice that stores started promoting it early in October this year?  Someone told me they saw decorations the end of September.    To add to the challenge, we have liberals and atheists trying to, not only take Christ out of Christmas, but also trying to remove all semblances of Christianity from the marketplace, the town square, our schools and anywhere else they can.
I guess the adage, "Keep Christ In Christmas", sounds cliché to many people these days, but this is exactly what we must do to celebrate it in a genuine, meaningful way.  How can Christmas be Christmas without Christ?  After all, it is His birthday that we are celebrating.  It is named for Him.  It is all about Him.  And, don't forget, Christmas is about giving rather than getting.  We must teach our children this.
I remember one Christmas when I opened a gift from my Grandfather Armstrong.  I was disappointed.  My immediate response was, "Phooey, socks", as I threw it down on the floor.  My Mom pounced on me like a tiger, and I quickly retracted that statement.  I received a lesson worth learning.
If Christmas is about anything, it is about gratitude.  We should be most grateful that God sent His Son, Jesus, as our Savior and Redeemer.  If you haven't been doing so, let this Christmas be the beginning of a genuine celebration of its reason – Christ.  Slowly read the following scripture with genuine gratitude.
John 3:16 (NKJV)
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.   11-30-09
