I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 12-07-09

Cartoonology Devotional.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Every cloud has a sliver lining.  I have heard that saying all of my life, and I have found it to be true to some degree in every situation of my life.  No matter how tough things might seem to get, I am always able to find someone else who is having a tougher time, and for whom I can pray.  When I do, it leads to rejoicing in my heart.  I don't rejoice over some else's troubles, but I rejoice over the blessings God has given me.

Problems, both small and great, can become opportunities for doing good.  Did you know that the waxed paper you probably have in your kitchen drawer was invented as a result of problem solving?

About 100 years ago there was a candlestick maker who often stopped at a market and bought a fish for his evening meal.  It was wrapped in ordinary paper, which became soggy, and the passengers on the streetcar always complained about the odor.  One morning he dipped the paper in molten wax. That day he wrapped his fish in the treated paper.  It did not become soggy, and there was no odor.  That is how waxed paper was born. (From "Stories for Preachers and Teachers")  This candlestick maker was possibly Thomas Edison's assistant, Thomas Conner.  Got a problem?  Do not curse it.  Look for an opportunity to do good because of it.

Romans 12:12 (NLT)
1Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.   12-07-09 edrynn@verizon.net
