I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 06-12-09

E. Larry Ross

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Intelligence is a matter of perspective. Some people have plenty of technical and academic knowledge but fall short on common sense. Others may not have a high degree of education, but they fair well in life. My father-in-law only had a 2nd grade education, but he was one of the most intelligent people I ever knew. He must have had a high IQ. Anything he set out to do he did well. He just had his own way of doing it.

I once had a little disagreement with him on a construction job. He left me to build a wall that would have an opening for a serving counter. I looked at the plans, figured out all the dimensions and built it. When he came to inspect it, he asked me how I arrived at the dimensions. “You can’t figure it that way”, he said. He then proceeded to figure it his way and came to the same conclusion. Our thought processes and methods were different

People often make the mistake of thinking that if something isn’t logical, it cannot be true. They are sort of like Mr. Spock on Star Trek. God doesn’t think like we do, because he is Holy (other than us). We cannot logically understand God. Faith is required.

Isaiah 55:8 (NKJV)
8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. 06-12-09
