Cartoonology Devotional 09-01-09
Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.
Count Your Blessings is a great hymn. Some of the lyrics are:
Count your many blessings name - them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
Count your many blessings; every doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.
Count your many blessings; money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven nor your home on high.
Count your many blessings; angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey's end.
Counting your blessings is a good practice. All too often we are so enamored with wanting more, that we fail to recognize the good things God has already provided. Also, we are amiss when we think that getting brings blessings.
The scriptures teach us that giving brings blessings. In fact, almost every passage in the Bible dealing with giving ends with a promise of blessing. Someone once said, "Giving to the Lord is but transporting our goods to a higher floor!—except there is an investment return every time the goods are moved higher!"
Giving is not limited to money. It can be love, compassion, care, time, talents, labor or forgiveness. You can think of others. The resulting blessings will mount up fast.
Luke 6:38 (NKJV)
