I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 05-01-09

E.Larry Ross

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

I can’t believe students once drove school buses! I drove from 1967 to 1969 during my junior and senior years. We might have been more responsible then, but that was still risky business. I behaved myself – most of the time.

One afternoon a friend and I decided to drag race from the school parking lot for lineup. As I snatched the gearshift, it came loose and was dangling from my hand. My first thought was, “We’re going to be late getting home.” My immediate, second thought was, “How am I going to explain this to the shop?”

I decided to replace the gearshift and try it out. It worked great all the way home, and I had fun taking it out to show everyone. However, after making all my pick-ups the next morning, I decided to take it out, lay it in the floor and call the shop to report my bus broken. Somehow, I got away with it and was never questioned.

This is not so when it comes to the Lord, however. One cannot escape the all-searching eye of God.

Proverbs 15:3 (NKJV)
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good. 05-01-09

Dear Lord, please help me every day to remember that honoring you is my first priority. Thank you for your forgiveness.
