Cartoonology Devotional 06-02-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. It is not in newer hymnals, but “Give of Your Best to the Master” was one we sang a lot in our church when I was a kid. When we think of what God has given us, that shouldn’t be difficult to do. People often give things they do not want for themselves when it comes to charity like cans of spinach, old clothes, worn out used items. In times of natural disasters, this is often the case. All too often we give what is left over to God. Some Christians think they can’t afford to tithe when in reality they can’t afford to withhold it. George Barna reported in 2007 that only 5% of churchgoers actually tithe. It seems we have not only pushed God out of our schools and the public square, but most Christians have pushed God out of their homes as well. Tithing to support the local church ministry is commanded by God. Furthermore, God promises blessings to tithers, and giving it to some other charity doesn’t count. Malachi 3:10 (NKJV)
