I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 04-24-09

E. Larry Ross

Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Children are a riot sometimes.  A Sunday School teacher was telling the story of Lot and his wife fleeing the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.  During the question and answer period a little girl spoke up and said, “My mom was driving daddy’s car and turned into a telephone pole!”  You never know what children are thinking!

I always do a children’s sermon on Sunday mornings during worship.  Every time I look into the faces of children, I wonder what the future holds for them and think to myself that here is potential hope for the future of our nation.  Children are such a blessing and leading them to Christ is essential.

Psalm 127:3 (NKJV)
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.

Whether we have children of our own or not, we should treasure children and invest our lives in them.  This is the parents’ primary responsibility, but everyone can do this.  Including children in our worship services, praying for them, loving them, talking with them, encouraging them, teaching them and paying attention to them are just a few ways we can do this.

Jesus cherished little children and compared them to true disciples in His Kingdom.  He took time to love and touch them.  He included them in His ministry of miracles.  What greater model can we ask for on this subject?

Mark 10:16 (NKJV)
16 And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.

As churches and church leaders, let us give the best we can to our children. 04-24-09
