Cartoonology Devotional 06-29-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. Most pessimists think they are realists. I suppose there can be a fine line sometimes, but there is nothing more discouraging than to be around pessimists who seldom see or promote anything positive. These people weary you. They often use words like never, can’t, won’t, shouldn’t, etc. Certainly, realism is necessary for healthy living, but the Christ follower serves a God who is able to do impossible or seemingly impossible things. For the Christian, faith is essential. I have a friend in Guam serving as a missionary. He has had a lot of serious eye problems. Recently he visited his doctor because blood vessels were beginning to grow into and take over his cornea, which, if left unchecked, would cause blindness. Below is his account of the visit. Well, the doctor looked into my eye with her little magnifying instrument thingy, gazed for about 10 seconds or so, backed away from the instrument, dropped her mouth open, gasped audibly and, as best as I can remember, said, "Oh my goodness! I don't believe it! They're gone! The blood vessels are all gone! It's like they were never there!" I told her that hundreds of people all over the world were praying for me. Her response was, “Well, it worked!” What happened? A miracle! This friend and his wife have seen more miracles than I can count. They are people of great faith and perseverance. The one, true, living God is a God of miracles. Luke 18:27 (NKJV)
