Cartoonology Devotional 04-30-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. I have always liked observing birds. When I was a kid I collected cards on birds, and at one time I had one for almost every bird imaginable. I also tried my hand at making nesting boxes, but I usually only succeeded in getting sparrows to take up residence. Today, I still have nesting boxes and have had a pair of bluebirds nest every year in two different ones. The last two years, however, I have had some sparrows that want to take over one box. Last year I tore out their newly constructed nest about 4 times but finally gave in and allowed them to hatch their eggs. This year, however, I persisted and probably tore out their nest about 7 to 8 times before they finally gave up. I suppose the only reason they did so was because it is past time for their first brood. The persistence of those sparrows was inspiring. I was surprised how they kept rebuilding their nest and how quickly they could do it. And even now, without a nest, they keep going in and out of the box as if to defiantly say, “This is still our house.” There is a lesson to be learned from these tiny little creatures.
