I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional

Cartoonology.  There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Being legal is one thing, but being ethical could be entirely different.  This is a problem in our society today.  People take advantage of the law to take advantage of others.  Just because it is legal in the eyes of the state to do something, does not mean one should do it, or that it is the ethical, moral thing to do.

When faced with tough decisions, one should not ask, "What can I get away with legally".  Rather, one should ask, "What is the ethical, moral and right thing to do in this situation".

Abortion would be just one example.  It is legal in this country to have an abortion, but is it the ethical, moral thing to do?  Can anyone justify taking the life of another human being, even if he or she is still in the womb?  Too many have allowed legality to sear their ethical and moral consciences for the sake of convenience, profit or escape from consequences.  God's people need to take a stand on the truth.

When still a very young preacher, another pastor advised me, "Discover the truth and stand there, and always be found standing there."  A man said he was looking for a one-armed lawyer. "A one-armed lawyer?" asked his friend, "How come?" The reply came quickly, "I am looking for an attorney who won't say, 'On the one hand, but on the other hand.' "
