Cartoonology Devotional 05-30-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. Children can be a riot, especially when it comes to telling on their parents. Often it is simple, childlike honesty. Sometimes it is plain deviousness. At any rate, parents should beware. We should be consistent in our Christian living, especially at home. One thing we forget as parents is that we are always teaching our children by, not only what we say, but by what we do. The old saying, “Actions speak louder than words”, rings true. As parents we should be looking for teachable moments in our children’s lives. This can be when a child asks questions indicating he is searching for truth or when a he is faced with a decision concerning morality or integrity. I once worked with a man who smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol, but he beat his son when he caught him doing the same. That inconsistency and hypocrisy drove the son to rebel severely. Dad didn’t have a leg to stand on. The scriptures have some words for us about teaching our children God’s ways. Deuteronomy 6:7 (NKJV)
