I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 07-17-09

E. Larry Ross

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Have you ever noticed that most people have some concept of heaven? This is displayed by the phrase, “This is heavenly”. There is one dessert my wife makes called Heavenly Hash. Perhaps people possess a misconception, but the idea of heaven being pleasant, good, rewarding, etc. seems to be a part of it. They are right about that, of course, and it is going to be much better than dessert or anything else of this earth.

There are a lot of questions about life after death. Death is one of life’s greatest mysteries. The Bible makes it clear that there are only two options – hell or heaven. I choose heaven and plan to go there. What about you?

What does the Bible tell us about heaven? Revelation 21:1-5 tells us that God will be there and that death, sorrow, crying and pain will be absent. Hallelujah! Revelation 21:9-27 reveals that it will be a glorious city glowing with the glory of God like precious jewels, and it will be a city without corruption or sin. Revelation 22:1-5 says that there will be no night and no need for the sun, that we will serve God there and that it is a place of eternity.

On second thought, heaven is not just a place I want to go to. It is a place I long for. Come with me. Trust Christ as Savior and Lord today if you haven’t already.

Philippians 1:21 (NKJV)
21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 07-17-09
