I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 08-12-09

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Have you ever been with someone when they were drowning? I have. It happened when I was attending a Baptist Royal Ambassador camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There was a nice lake there for swimming and boating.

One day two other boys and myself took a boat out to the middle of the lake. We decided to take a swim. Soon, one of the boys began to struggle, and it was obvious he had suffered a cramp and was drowning. As the other two of us tried to help him, he nearly drowned us all, but fortunately, by the grace of God, he regained composure and we all were able to climb back into the boat.

That will never leave my memory, but the thing that sticks with me the most is what happened after we made it back to shore. After telling our story to the others, including our counselors, some said they never heard our cries for help or noticed us. Others said they thought we were just playing.

I have often wondered how many people have crossed my path that are drowning in their sin to an eternal death, and I either did not notice or did not offer them the life preserver of salvation in Christ.

Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." 08-12-09
