I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 07-18-09

E. Larry Ross

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

The Associated Press reported a story about a recently found wallet that was stolen 27 years ago in 1982. It had been swiped from Ruth Bendik while she watched a New York Marathon along with a crowd of other onlookers. A park worker found it in the hollow of a dying cherry tree. Only $20.00 was missing. Ruth’s credit cards and other ID’s were still in it.

Losing things is bad enough, but when you become lost yourself, it is frightening. I remember an occasion as a young boy straying away from my mother in the 5 and 10 cent store (Anyone else remember those?). The rows of toys fascinated me, and I couldn’t resist as they lured me down the aisle. I also remember the moment when I realized I was lost. My mother was nowhere in sight. There is no feeling quite like it when your heart sinks, and at the same time, jumps up into your throat. It turned out my mother knew where I was and had kept her eye on me all the while.

You might be lost, but the Lord knows where you are and just how you feel. All He is waiting on is for you to seek Him. He will come to you and save you and make you secure. Call out His name in prayer and He will hear you. God has His own Lost and Found Department.

Psalm 116:13 (NKJV)
13 I will take up the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the Lord. 07-18-09
