I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

I know the image to the left is not a cartoon. It is just something I created. A cartoon didn’t seem appropriate for this devotional. The SON became SIN and “I” was the reason. Change the “O” to “I” and you get SIN.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
The “He” in this verse is God. The “Him” in this verse is Jesus. The sin in this verse is MINE. The righteousness in this verse is God’s. On the cross, Jesus was made to be my sin. He took my place and paid the price for my sin. The ultimate swap took place there. Notice that in return, by faith, I received His righteousness.

This is what Paul is talking about when he tells us to “put on” Christ or the new man.

Galatians 3:27 (NKJV)
27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Ephesians 4:24 (NKJV)
24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
The words put on in the Greek convey the idea of sinking into a garment or putting on clothing. This is a great image. We can put on Christ, because he put on our sin. As a Christian, God no longer sees my sin, but He now sees His Son. What great Provision!! 03-07-09
