I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 10-09-09

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

Some of the best experiences in life are those we did not start but those experiences that God introduced into our lives. When Moses caught sight of the burning bush on the backside of the desert, he probably never imagined how that would change his life. God has a way of getting our attention through drastic means.

The thing about the story of Moses and the burning bush that strikes me the most is that Moses would have never dreamed up such a plan for himself. He considered himself totally insufficient for the task that God was calling him to, which was going back to Egypt to liberate his fellow Israelites from bondage. Moses had fled that place in fear and shame years before, and I am certain he never wanted to see it again. He had been living in a state of bondage of his own making and seemed content in it.

Ironically, this is what helped prepare Moses for the job. Never think that because others have considered you down and out that God can't use you. God has a way of qualifying the unqualified. Moses made excuses at first, but he eventually had to surrender to God's claim on his life.

What is your excuse for not obeying God? Perhaps, He has gotten your attention and made if obvious what you should do. As the old saying goes, "Let go and let God."

Proverbs 19:21 (NLT)
21 You can make many plans, but the Lord's purpose will prevail. 10-09-09
