Share on Facebook Cartoonology Devotional 07-21-09 E. Larry Ross Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics. The divorce rate in America is right at 50%. The rate is much higher if you take into consideration those who live together before marriage and then break up. According to a recent study 70% of couples live together before marriage, and that alone puts them at greater risk of divorce after marriage. One study revealed that people who cohabitate have a 80% higher rate of divorce. Preventing divorce makes a lot of sense when you consider the costs involved. Those costs are not only financial but also emotional and physical. The financial cost can be staggering and run into thousands of dollars. It would make more sense to spend a few thousand to save the marriage. Neither cohabitation nor divorce is unpardonable sin. God will forgive such sins, but they are sins the Lord seems to give special attention to. Marriage was created and ordained by God. The marriage between a man and a woman is to mirror the marriage between God and His people and Jesus and His church. In order for that to be a reality, a marriage relationship needs to be pure and in order for it to be pure, the relationship needs to start off that way before marriage. If this is not your case, take heart. God can give you a clean, new start through Jesus Christ.
