I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 07-24-09

E Larry Ross

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.

There is an old story about a mule that stood between two stacks of hay. He could not decide which stack to eat from. This went on until he starved to death. The point of the story is that indecision can be costly.

On the other hand stupid, snappy decisions can get you into trouble, too. Two men in Kentucky decided to pull the front off a cash machine by running a chain from the machine to the bumper of their pickup truck. Instead of pulling the front panel off the machine, though, they pulled the bumper off their truck. Scared, they left the scene and drove home: With the chain still attached to the machine. With their bumper still attached to the chain. With their vehicle's license plate still attached to the bumper.

Every day we are faced with decisions of various degrees of importance. When it comes to moral and spiritual decisions, proper decisiveness is of the utmost importance. We don’t want to be like Barbara Mandrel who sang the lyrics about loving another woman’s husband, “If loving you is wrong, I don’t want to be right”.

Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)
15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." 07-24-09
