I love cartoons and have noticed through the years that they quite often contain a spiritual message or hint. Cartoons often depict the culture of our day. This blog is an attempt to draw from cartoons and apply spiritual truths than can impact our lives. Let me know if you find them of any value. Previous devotionals are archived below.

Cartoonology Devotional 09-25-09

Cartoonology. There is great theology in cartoons and comics.
Wouldn't it be nice if there could be peace on earth – even for one day? According to Wikipedia, there are currently 14 wars going on in the world.

World War I was declared to be the "war to end all wars". It lasted from 1914 to 1918. Only 21 years later, World War II broke out. It seems war of some fashion is here to stay. We shouldn't be surprised. Hate has been a characteristic of man from the beginning. Cain killed his brother Abel because of hatred and jealousy. It has only escalated, and this is in keeping with what Jesus said about war in Matthew 24:6.
On January 30, 1973, Patrice Tamao of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, allowed himself to be nailed to a cross "as a sacrifice for world peace and understanding among men." Six-inch stainless-steel nails were driven through his hands and feet. Tamao planned to remain on the cross for 48 hours, but after only 20 hours, an infection in his right foot cut it short. A newspaper article had as it's heading, "Crucifixion-for-peace falls short."

There is a peace any man can have even in the midst of war and conflict. This is the peace that Jesus gives. It is a peace no one can take from you. Thank the Lord; Jesus did not fall short during His crucifixion!

John 14:27 (NKJV)
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 09-25-09
